Intelligent materials are a promising approach to todays problems and thus became an essential part of research. They react on external stimuli, e.g., temperature and electricity, upon which they can change their basic attributes.

A new contribution of such a building block was presented by the working group of Prof. Dr. Ulrich S. Schubert from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena in the renown scientific journal “Chemical Communications”. They demonstrated a method for the stable embedment of iron into water-soluble polymers. The new materials were thoroughly characterized and their reversible reaction to environmental stimuli was demonstrated. This paves pathways towards intelligent transport of drugs, energy storage and switchable working-materials.

The original contribution entitled „Ferrocene containing redox-responsive poly(2-oxazoline)s” can be found hereExterner Link.
