On July 29, 2025, Christian K. Tischner, Thuringia’s Minister for Education, Science and Culture, visited the innovation hubs HIPOLE Jena and CEEC Jena, as well as the Jena Center for Soft Matter (JCSM) and the Center for Applied Research (ZAF).
The visit began with a warm welcome from Prof. Dr. Ulrich S. Schubert (HIPOLE Jena and CEEC Jena / JCSM), Prof. Dr. Andreas Marx (President of Friedrich Schiller University Jena), and Prof. Dr. Bernd Rech (Managing Director of Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin), followed by opening remarks from Minister Tischner.
The Minister toured several state-of-the-art laboratories, engaging directly with researchers and gaining insights into ongoing interdisciplinary projects in the fields of energy storage, sustainable materials, and polymer research. The tour included stops at ZAF, CEEC Jena I and II, and HIPOLE Jena.
Following the tour, a small-group discussion provided a forum for in-depth exchange on scientific innovation, education policy, and research funding. The visit concluded with a poster session, demonstrations of current research highlights, and informal discussions with members of HIPOLE Jena over coffee and cake.
Minister Tischner's visit underscored the importance of fostering close ties between politics and research and highlighted the role of Thuringia’s scientific institutions in shaping a sustainable future.
