Around 140 experts in the field of nanomedicine met at the Symposium on Innovative Polymers for the Nanomedicine of the 21st Century at the Center for Applied Research (ZAF) in Jena from 15 to 17 July, 2019. In a total of 24 scientific lectures, five workshops and 30 posters, the current state of research was recapitulated and new perspectives were presented.

A highlight of the conference was the plenary lecture by Prof. Dr. Kazunori Kataoka, an expert in nanomedicine research from the University of Tokyo and the Innovation Center of NanoMedicine in Kawasaki City (Japan), on "Self-assembled supramolecular nanosystems for smart diagnosis and targeted therapy of intractable diseases". This was followed by a series of top-class presentations by scientists from Jena and abroad. At the conference dinner in the Botanical Garden or at the traditional Thuringian barbecue evening with bratwurst and beer, informal networking was not neglected either.
