...on the degradability of plastics in biomedical applications .

Nowadays polymers play an important role in many biomedical applications. Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) is the most commonly used polymer for these purposes. Nevertheless, the number of scientific reports dealing with its drawbacks is increasing and therefore alternatives are needed urgently.

Poly(2-oxazoline)s (POx) are already well investigated as potential PEG replacements due to their similar properties. However, both, POx as well as PEG suffer from non-degradability. But for a wide range of biomedical applications degradability would be a desired property. In our recent publication we present a straightforward synthesis route towards degradable POx analogues via a postpolymerization synthesis route. Moreover, we compare their properties to their non-degradable analogoues and investigated their degradability under different conditions.
